The Blue Jackets have signed Alexander Wennberg to a six-year, $29.4 million contract, getting their No. 1 center under contract just two weeks before the start of training camp.

The deal carries a $4.9 million salary cap through the 2022-23 season. Wennberg, 22, will make $3.5 million this season, $4.5 million in 2018-19 and $5.35 million in the final four years of the contract.

The contract does not include any no-trade or no-move clauses.

Wennberg is home in Sweden but expected to fly to Columbus as soon as he can obtain a work visa to travel to the U.S.

I never doubted he would be signed before we started camp, Blue Jackets general manager Jarmo Kekalainen told The Athletic. I never thought about not having him here, to be honest. He was a restricted free agent with no arbitration rights. Ive never seen any advantage in a player holding out.

Alex Wennberg is a smart young man. We never thought it would get to a situation where he would hold out and not attend training camp.

The Blue Jackets still have one player without a contract: right wing Josh Anderson.
